I’m getting OLD

I know I’m not a spring chick or anything, but I seriously thought that student-teaching would not throw for too big of a loop.  I was W-R-O-N-G!  Yesterday was my first day and it just about killed me!  I was so exhausted that I was falling asleep at the table during dinner.  It’s not that the day was bad, but just long.  And maybe a little nerve-racking seeing as I had never been in this school before nor met the kids.  Today was mucho better.  I had things to do, knew all the kids’ names (a whopping 15) and even had a good laugh with the other grade level teachers (not a my expense).

Tonight I even have a little energy to knit!  I patterned and started the second fingerless glove, but have not made it passed the cabling and ribbing yet.  Definitely won’t get that far tonight, but will probably finish it this weekend.  We have an SCA event on Saturday at which I plan to sit my happy butt in a nice chair and take a load off, Fanny.  That is the plan, but we all know about the best laid plans.  I will end up running around, making sure all is running smoothly.  I will also be handed the position of seneschal.  If you don’t have any clue, let me tell somethin’ to you…I am fixin’ to be responsible for herding cats.  CEO of a cathouse.  Puttin’ out fires, makin’ sure everybody’s doin’ what they’s supposed to be doin’.  While I’m in grad school, student-teaching, with two kids, dealing with Girl Scout cookie orders, and Bryce’s band stuff, and I’m sure there is something else.  Oh…the Professor is working two jobs and looking for a third.  Ain’t that a hoot!  Maybe there’s a reason I feel so OLD.

Good bye to Moanday…and I want this

I want to learn to spin and have fallen in love with this

fidelis-spinning-wheel.jpg

It’s called a Fidelis spinning wheel and is made by some folks here in GA. They have them listed on eBay (maybe etsy). If you are interested, contact them!

Peace Fleece

Quick post…I found this site a long time ago, bookmarked it, and then promptly forgot about it. A post on Cass’s site brought it back to memory and I checked it out again. Talk about some beautiful yarn…with a message. Take a look-see!

Cocoa Swap Questionnaire

The Cocoa Swap is gearing up and the Questionnaire is out there. I think I’m doing this right by posting it here on my site so others can find out a little bit more about me (maybe I should be worried)

Cocoa:
1. What is your favorite way to drink cocoa? Prepared with milk? Water? from home made recipe or store bought?, In a tea cup, or big mug?

My absolute favorite way to drink cocoa is made from the recipe on the side of the Hershey’s cocoa box…with milk and in a huge mug.

2. Marshmallows or whipped cream?

Whipped cream

Yarn/Knitting/Crochet
1. What is your favorite type of yarn? In what colors?

Natural yarns…no acrylics. I love Blue Sky and would like to try Debbie Bliss Cashmerino. Colors…I love blues and greens, but I’ve been eyeing Kristin Knits and am thinking I might want to give some of her wild color combos a try!

2. Do you knit or crochet (or both)?

I only knit. I will, some where down the road, try crocheting again (if Armelle ever has the patience to try to teach me again).

3. What are your favorite type of needles, would you like to try something new?

I love my Addie Turbos. I also have bamboo needles. I’m up to trying new things, just may need some guidance :)

4. Do you have a healthy supply of notions?

I have some…stitch markers, cabling needles (somewhere around here), and tapestry needles.

5. What one thing do you keep thinking you need to buy for your knitting habit (outside of yarn)?

Besides more needles, I would like to try adding beads. I haven’t made anything that requires buttons yet.

6. What is your favorite ‘quick knit/crochet’ pattern (quick gratification)

Hat patterns in the round on medium-sized needles

Miscellaneous
1. What is your favorite thing to do in the Winter?

I would prefer to knit and watch the birds, but, alas, it will be student-teaching this year (sigh)

2. What is your favorite animal?

I am an animal person, but, as you might could tell by the blog name, turtles are my faves. Cute and cuddly? I go for cats.

3. Do you get the ‘winter blahs’?

Nope. With a busy family, there’s no time for that. My birthday is in February, so I’m also a winter baby.

4. What is your favorite way to beat the blahs?

Go out for a walk or read a good book.

5. What is the thing you are most looking forward to this spring?

Everything coming into bloom, the colors, the life! We have ducks in the lake across the street and I hope to see babies in the spring. I also want to start a container vegetable garden on the back deck.

6. What are your favorite treat?

I love the Archer’s Farms lime and lemon cookie straws from Target. I am also seriously addicted to chocolate!

7. What is your favorite board game?

I am always up for a game of Mancala or Senet (an ancient Egyptian game). I would like to find an inexpensive version of Mah Jong.

8. Do you have any children (furry or human)?

I have 2 human animals (soon to be 13 and 9) and 4 furry children (2 indoor and 2 outdoor cats). I also have the Professor, the biggest kid of them all.

9. Do you have any allergies or special considerations you partner should know about?

Nope

I finished the first glove!

Yep…that’s my only accomplishment today.  It took me 3 days to knit it.  Have I mentioned that I’m a slow knitter?  The plan is to at least pattern the glove for the right hand and get it started.  Not very likely!  My MIL is in (she’s great) and I have to start preparing myself for student-teaching next week.  I seriously doubt there will be much time for knitting after that (insert shudders of horror and sighs of regret).  To save my sanity, I might be huddled in a corner, knitting the stress of the day away.  If I start rocking back and forth and muttering to myself (more than usual), someone call for help (or bring me a drink).

Cocoa Swap Update

By the end of this weekend, I will know my swap buddy and then the fun will begin!  This is my first swap so I’m a little nervous and a little giddy.  It is also after 1 in the morning and I’m a little loopy.  Sleep might be good now!  Good night!

While I’m at it…

These are my current WIPs.  I plan on starting a scarf with an owl pattern on it for Bryce.

My Eleanor of Toledo (ish) stockings.  A wool/silk blend on size 2s from a pattern I found on the HistoricKnits Yahoo! group site.
